The reprints included in the book are from a number of sources (not just the Charlton magazines) including many from the British children's (or teenage) weekly magazine Look-In.

The fans I've spoken to all seemed to enjoy the compilations, especially as for many this is the first time they've been able to view these strips...which were aimed at a young audience and produced at a time when comics were at a very different evolutionary stage than they are now.
The reason a third season of the actual (excellent and ahead of its time) TV show wasn't produced was because Lord Lew Grade foolishly decided to pump his millions into a series of I'll - advised cinematic flops instead...particularly Raise the Titanic. Ironically, if he'd paid out just a few million to produce a Space:1999 year three instead, the show would have had enough episodes to be syndicated in the same manner as Star Trek, Lost in Space et al and would presumably have ridden the crest of the sci-fi wave created by the enormous success of Star Wars.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15500874772034409741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7126523682465389764.post-10912467757142251402014-06-11T15:54:01.420-04:002014-06-11T15:54:01.420-04:00Thanks much for the review.. Glad I saved my money from buying this.

Huge 1999 fan from the '70s, the only clarification I'd make was the decision to produce a third series of shows. The second yr closing ratings were indeed improved over the first yr warranting another season; unfortunately Sir Lew Grade (main funder at ITC..) passed on a third year to instead focus on big-budget movies, which most unfortunately became flops and sunk his international entertainment standing. david_bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00218727673816200051noreply@blogger.com
